Yawkey Foundation is established.

[1977-BGL] Founded by Jean Yawkey, widow of the late Boston Red Sox owner Thomas Yawkey, its headquarters are located in Dedham. The foundation’s assets are increased by some $400 million as a result of the sale of the team in 2001 and now total some $580 million. In Boston, it has concentrated its giving primarily to health centers and youth centers.
